Who is Edward Filene?
The name behind our company, Edward Albert Filene, was more than a businessman he was a visionary who helped bring the Credit Union movement to life in the United States. Born in 1860, Filene graduated from Harvard University and became a pioneering advocate for cooperative banking. Edward Filene helped establish the first Credit Unions in the United States during the early 1900s, working closely with Alphonse Desjardins to bring the Credit Union movement from Europe to America. Filene believed that community-based financial institutions could better serve working families and small businesses than traditional banks.
